About the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera
The 997 Carrera marked Porsche's return to more distinctive 911 styling after the controversial 996 generation. Grant Larson's design restored classic round headlights while introducing modern proportions that collectors now recognize as perfectly balanced. The 3.6-liter flat-six produced 325 horsepower with the characteristically sweet sound that made the 997 generation so beloved. Most importantly, this was the last base Carrera available with a proper six-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. The $70,000 original MSRP now seems almost quaint, and well-maintained examples have become increasingly sought after as entry points into serious 911 collecting. The 997's combination of modern reliability, classic aesthetics, and pure driving engagement has created a strong collector following.
