About the 2001 Porsche 911 GT2
The 996 GT2 emerged as Porsche's most extreme 911 of the early 2000s, a rear-wheel-drive monster that earned the nickname 'Widowmaker.' With just 1,287 units produced, this homologation special delivered 477 hp from its twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-six, all sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Pinky Lai's design featured aggressive aero, wider fenders, and the distinctive whale-tail spoiler. Originally built to homologate racing variants, the GT2 represented pure, unfiltered performance in an era before electronic nannies. Values have surged dramatically as collectors recognize its significance as the last truly analog turbocharged 911.
