The 2001 Mustang Bullitt marked Ford's first tribute to Steve McQueen's legendary Highland Green fastback from the 1968 film. Limited to just 5,582 units, this special edition delivered more than nostalgic paint—Ford's SVT team massaged the 4.6L V8 to produce 265 horsepower, 15 more than the standard GT, through revised intake and exhaust tuning. The package included unique 17-inch wheels, lowered suspension, and subtle Bullitt badging while deleting the rear spoiler for period-correct aesthetics. Inside, Dark Charcoal leather with unique stitching complemented the understated approach. Unlike later Bullitt editions, the '01 retained the chrome 'pony in corral' grille emblem.
