About the 2016 Ferrari 488 Race Cars

The 488 Challenge launched Ferrari's one-make racing series into the turbo era, providing gentleman racers with a track-focused weapon based on the road car. With 500 units built over four years, it featured the GTB's 660-hp engine but with track-specific aerodynamics, racing suspension, and stripped interior. The Challenge series' global popularity made these cars the backbone of Ferrari's customer racing program, competing on circuits worldwide. Unlike the more extreme Challenge Evo, the original Challenge maintained some road car DNA while delivering serious track performance. The car's success in Ferrari's racing ecosystem helped validate the turbocharged 488 platform among purists. At $275,000 new, it offered relatively accessible entry into Ferrari racing. Today, retired Challenge cars appeal to collectors seeking track-day weapons with racing pedigree, though values vary significantly based on condition and competition history.
