About the 1966 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 4.2

The Series I 2+2 transformed the E-Type from pure sports car into practical grand tourer, extending the wheelbase by nine inches to accommodate rear passengers. While purists initially criticized the proportional changes, the 2+2's distinctive roofline has aged into elegance. The 4.2-liter XK engine provided ample power for the additional weight, while the longer chassis actually improved ride quality. With 5,598 units produced, these cars offered families the chance to own an E-Type without sacrificing practicality. The availability of automatic transmission broadened appeal further, making the 2+2 Jaguar's most accessible performance car. Today's collectors appreciate the 2+2's unique character and relative value compared to roadsters and coupes. The extra space and comfort make them ideal for touring, while the unmistakable E-Type silhouette ensures they remain true icons of 1960s design.
