About the 1953 Triumph TR2
The TR2 launched Triumph's legendary TR series and established the template for affordable British sports cars. With only 8,628 units produced between 1953-1955, the TR2 is the rarest of the early TRs, making it highly sought after by collectors today. The 2.0-liter inline-four delivered 90 hp and genuine sports car performance, achieving over 100 mph, impressive for the era. Built in Coventry with traditional British craftsmanship, the TR2's simple, honest design emphasized function over flash. Its success in competition, including class wins at Le Mans, established Triumph's sporting credentials and paved the way for the entire TR lineage. Today, TR2s command premium prices due to their historical significance and extreme rarity. Finding a good example requires patience and deep pockets, but owners possess a genuine piece of British motoring history that represents the birth of the modern sports car era.
