The GT6 was Triumph's ambitious attempt to create a 'poor man's E-Type' by grafting a 2.0-liter inline-six into the Spitfire's chassis. Built from 1966-1973 in Coventry, this fastback coupe delivered 104 hp and genuine sports car performance with its 10.1-second 0-60 time. The result was a beautifully proportioned grand tourer that offered more refinement than the open Spitfire while maintaining British sports car character. With 40,926 units produced, the GT6 strikes a sweet spot for collectors—rare enough to be special but common enough to find parts and expertise. Early Mk1 models are particularly prized for their pure lines before safety regulations altered the design. Today's collectors appreciate the GT6's combination of attractive styling, smooth six-cylinder power, and relative affordability compared to contemporary Jaguars and Porsches.
