The 308 GTB debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1975. It was the first mid-engined V8 ever to wear the Ferrari badge. Pininfarina designed it and Scaglietti built the bodies, which were fiberglass at first. Steel and aluminum took over from late 1976. A transverse 3.0-liter V8 made 255bhp in European form.
The 308 GTS joined the range at the 1977 Frankfurt Salon. Its targa roof panel could be stowed behind the seats. The 308 GTBi replaced carburetors with fuel injection, which cost power. The Quattrovalvole was presented at the 1982 Paris Salon. Its four valves per cylinder gave 240bhp at 7,000 rpm. All 308 variants combined reached 12,149 cars. It was the best-selling Ferrari in history when it left production in 1985.
The 328 GTB and GTS were introduced at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the Mondial 3.2. The name refers to the 3.2-liter displacement and eight cylinders. Capacity rose to 3,185 cc with 270 hp. Body-color bumpers and a softer wedge set it apart. ABS brakes became optional in mid-1988. Ferrari built 1,344 GTB coupes and 6,068 GTS models. The 348 replaced them in the fall of 1989.
