About the 2005 Ford Mustang GT Premium
The S197-generation Mustang GT Premium marked Ford's triumphant return to proper V8 power after the dark days of the Fox-body's twilight years. Launched in 2005 with retro-inspired styling that perfectly captured the original's essence, these GTs packed a 4.6-liter three-valve V8 producing 300 horsepower, later bumped to 315 hp in 2010. The Premium package added leather Shaker 500 audio, upgraded wheels, and other luxury touches that elevated the experience beyond base GT territory. While not as collectible as the Shelby variants, clean examples with manual transmissions are increasingly sought after, especially 2012-2014 models with the improved 5.0-liter Coyote V8 making 412 horsepower. The S197 represents the last of the solid-axle Mustangs before IRS arrived in 2015, making them appealing to purists who appreciate their raw, old-school character.
