About the 2000 Ferrari 550 Barchetta
The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was Ferrari's tribute to 1950s racing spiders, limited to just 448 examples worldwide. This roadster eliminated the 550's roof entirely, creating a pure driving experience that recalled Ferrari's competition heritage. Each Barchetta was individually numbered and featured unique Pininfarina badging, marking it as a special collaboration between Ferrari and its longtime design partner. The naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V12 produced the same 485 hp as the coupe, but the open cockpit transformed the sensory experience completely. Sophisticated aerodynamics managed airflow without a windshield header, though a small deflector provided minimal wind protection. Built only for 2001-2002, the Barchetta represented the ultimate expression of front-engine Ferrari philosophy.
