About the 1990 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 300GE

The 300 GE is the first gasoline W463, built from 1990 to 1994. It has a 3.0L six cylinder making 168 hp and 140 lb-ft. It came in manual and automatic versions. The W463 brought a more comfortable cabin than the W460. Collectors look for rust in the frame, the floors and the rear body. They also check electrics and interior condition, since early W463 trim ages poorly. Original paint and complete service records matter. Compare it with the later G 320, which has more power. Check the transfer case and the locking differentials for smooth, quiet operation on a test drive.
