About the 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10
The original RT/10 launched Dodge into supercar territory with shocking brutality and zero apologies. Tom Gale's design was pure function over form, no roof, no side windows, no traction control, just 400 horsepower of naturally aspirated V10 fury. Built at New Mack Assembly with typical early-'90s Chrysler quality, the RT/10 was more race car than road car. The truck-derived V10 delivered massive torque but required serious skill to exploit safely. Only 3,083 units were produced across four years, making genuine RT/10s increasingly rare. Early examples suffered from heat issues and questionable build quality, but survivors represent the purest expression of American supercar philosophy. Collectors now appreciate the RT/10's historical significance as the car that proved American manufacturers could build legitimate supercars. Values continue climbing as enthusiasts recognize its role in automotive history.
