The Series 3 Alfa Romeo Spider represents the final evolution of Pininfarina's timeless design before the controversial plastic bumper era. Built from 1983-1989, these cars retained the classic chrome bumpers while gaining fuel injection and improved reliability over earlier carbureted models. The 2.0-liter twin-cam four-cylinder produced around 115 horsepower, paired exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission that perfectly complemented the car's sporting character. What makes this generation particularly desirable is its sweet spot positioning—modern enough for daily reliability yet classic enough to embody the pure Italian roadster experience that made Dustin Hoffman famous in The Graduate. Production numbers were relatively low compared to mass-market convertibles, and finding unmolested examples with original Cromodora wheels and intact soft tops is increasingly challenging.
