The Midget 1500 represented the final evolution of MG's smallest sports car, introducing Triumph's 1.5-liter Spitfire engine to meet increasingly stringent emissions regulations. While the larger displacement improved torque and driveability, the change marked the end of the traditional A-series engine that had powered Midgets since 1961.
