About the 2001 Honda Civic Type R
The EP3 marked Honda's controversial move to hatchback form and UK production, but time has been kind to this misunderstood Type R. The 2.0-liter i-VTEC produces 200 horsepower with that signature VTEC kick, while the six-speed manual offers more precise gearing than its predecessor. Swindon-built quality was excellent, and the more practical packaging made it a daily-usable Type R. Initially criticized for its rear suspension setup, the EP3 has found new appreciation among collectors who value its unique character and relative affordability. With 25,000 examples produced, it's more accessible than other Type Rs, making it an entry point into the collector market. Clean, unmodified examples are becoming harder to find as enthusiasts recognize the EP3's place in Type R evolution.
