The AMG GT marked Mercedes' bold return to dedicated sports car territory, challenging Porsche's 911 dominance with SLS-derived DNA in a more accessible package. Built around AMG's hand-assembled 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, the base GT delivered 456 horsepower through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, launching this front-engine, rear-drive coupe to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. The aluminum spaceframe construction and transaxle layout created near-perfect 47:53 weight distribution, while the active aerodynamics and adaptive suspension showcased AMG's racing pedigree from Formula 1 and GT3 competition.
