Mercedes-AMG introduced the AMG GT on September 9, 2014. The public saw it in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show. It was the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. A V8 in the front drove the rear wheels. Two turbos sat inside the cylinder banks of the 4.0-liter V8. The base GT made 456 bhp and the GT S made 503 bhp.

The GT C and the GT R followed. The GT R raised peak power to 577 bhp. By 2021 the range had the GT in Coupe and Roadster forms and a GT C Roadster. It also had the GT R Coupe and the Black Series Coupe. The Black Series kept the twin-turbo V8 but used a flat-plane crankshaft instead of a cross-plane. The AMG GT Four Door Coupé arrived in 2018 and shared little with the two-seater. The two-door model was discontinued in 2021.

Mercedes brought the AMG GT back for 2024 as a second generation. It has all-wheel drive for the first time and optional 2+2 seats. A handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 sits under the hood. The GT 63 delivers 577 hp and the GT 55 produces 469 hp.
