About the 2000 Lotus Exige
The original Lotus Exige represents Colin Chapman's philosophy distilled to its purest form. Built on the Series 1 Elise platform but with a fixed hardtop and more aggressive aero package, this track-focused weapon weighed just 1,598 pounds. The naturally aspirated 1.8-liter Rover K-series engine produced 190 horsepower, delivering a power-to-weight ratio that embarrassed supercars costing three times as much. Only 601 Series 1 Exiges were produced during its brief two-year run, making it significantly rarer than the Elise. The car's dramatic styling, penned by Julian Thomson, featured distinctive side air intakes and a rear wing that wasn't just for show. Today, clean examples command serious money among collectors who appreciate its uncompromising approach to performance. This is analog driving at its finest, no stability control, no power steering, just pure mechanical connection between driver and road.
