About the 1979 Porsche 924 Turbo

The 924 Turbo transformed Porsche's entry-level model from maligned to magnificent. Introduced in 1979, this forced-induction variant finally gave the 924 the performance to match its looks, with a KKK turbocharger boosting the 2.0-liter four-cylinder to 170 horsepower, a 60% increase over the naturally aspirated car. The result was genuine sports car acceleration, hitting 60 mph in 6.9 seconds and reaching 142 mph. Distinguished by its distinctive NACA duct hood scoop, flared fenders, and aggressive front air dam, the Turbo looked the part too. Only around 12,000 examples were built during its five-year run, making it significantly rarer than the standard 924. Today, clean examples command serious money as collectors recognize the Turbo as the 924 Porsche should have built from day one, a proper stepping stone to the legendary 944 Turbo that followed.
