The mid-70s Grand Prix represents Pontiac's bold interpretation of the personal luxury coupe, built on the intermediate A-body platform. While emissions regulations neutered many muscle cars, the Grand Prix maintained its presence with distinctive styling featuring a prominent nose and wraparound rear window. The 400 cubic inch V8 was standard, with the 455 available through 1976 before downsizing hit hard in 1977. What makes these cars collectible today is their role as the last of the truly large American personal luxury coupes before the downsizing era. The SJ trim offered the best performance credentials, while base models provide affordable entry into classic Pontiac ownership. Production peaked at over 150,000 units in 1973, making survivors reasonably attainable. Clean examples with original 455s command premium prices, especially in desirable colors like Buccaneer Red or Brewster Green.
