The mid-70s Monte Carlo represents Chevrolet's last hurrah before emissions strangled performance, making these increasingly sought after by collectors. Built on the A-body platform shared with the Chevelle, the '73-'77 Monte Carlo offered genuine muscle car DNA wrapped in a more refined package. The '73-'74 models are particularly desirable, still available with the legendary LS4 454 big-block producing 245 horsepower. Even the small-block 350 variants from this era deliver respectable performance compared to what followed. The swooping fastback roofline and distinctive round taillights give these cars undeniable presence, while the luxurious interior separated them from their Chevelle siblings. Production numbers were healthy, but finding unmolested examples grows harder each year. Values have been climbing steadily as collectors recognize these as the final affordable entry point into GM's muscle car legacy, especially the earlier big-block cars.
