Toyota introduced the Celica Supra in 1978 as a derivative of the second-generation Celica with a six-cylinder engine. The 1979 model had 110 hp. The A60 generation arrived in 1981 with a 2.8-liter six rated at 145 hp. Toyota separated the Supra from the Celica in 1986 with the A70. Its engines included a turbocharged 3.0-liter 7M-GTE.
The A80 arrived in 1993. Its 3.0-liter 2JZ engine came in two forms. The 2JZ-GE was naturally aspirated, and the 2JZ-GTE was twin-turbo. The U.S. 1993 Supra Turbo was rated at 320 hp and had a six-speed manual. Toyota pulled the Supra from the U.S. market in 1998. Production ended in August 2002.
The GR Supra launched in 2019 after a 17-year gap. Toyota developed it with BMW, and it shares a platform with the Z4. The 2020 model had a 3.0-liter straight-six rated at 335 hp. Power rose to 382 hp in 2021. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four rated at 255 hp was also offered. Toyota added a six-speed manual for 2023. A 500-unit A91-MT Edition was offered in the U.S.
In April 2025 Toyota said the 2026 model year would be the last for the fifth-generation GR Supra. Toyota said production would end in spring 2026. The 2026 Final Edition kept the 382 hp 3.0-liter inline-six.
