Ferrari unveiled the 488 GTB at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It replaced the 458. The car is powered by a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8. It was the first mid-engine Ferrari with a turbocharged V8 since the F40. Ferrari quoted 670 cv at 8,000 rpm and 172 cv per liter, a new record for a road-going Ferrari. The 488 in the name gives the engine's unitary displacement.
The 488 Spider debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015. Ferrari developed the whole car around its retractable hard top. It also made 670 cv. Ferrari unveiled the 488 Pista, a hard-core track car, at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Its revised V8 made 710 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. The convertible 488 Pista Spider was unveiled at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Racing versions of the 488 included the GTE, the GT3 and the Challenge. In 2017 the 488 GTE of AF Corse won the drivers and constructors titles in the LM GTE Pro class. Ferrari revealed the F8 Tributo as the successor to the 488 GTB ahead of the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Its 3.9-liter V8 makes 710hp.
