What is a Shelby Cobra worth today?
The Shifty Estimate is $120,000. That sits above the $55,500 median of actual sales because the median counts every car that sold, including high-mileage examples, while the estimate describes a clean, low-mileage one bought today. We rate confidence low: 5 public sales in a year is not enough to be firm, and the honest range is wide. Treat it as a starting point, not a valuation.

About the Shelby Cobra
The Shelby Cobra remains the ultimate David-versus-Goliath story in automotive history. When Carroll Shelby shoehorned Ford's 289 and later 427 V8 into AC's lightweight British roadster chassis, he created a monster that could embarrass Ferraris at a fraction of the cost. The original 289 Cobras produced from 1962-1965 delivered 271 horsepower in a 2,020-pound package, while the legendary 427 variants pushed 425 horsepower through the same featherweight frame. Only 998 original Cobras were built across all variants, making authentic examples extraordinarily valuable. The car's racing pedigree is unmatched, dominating SCCA competition and helping Ford secure the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship. Today, genuine Cobras command seven figures, with 427 S/C models reaching stratospheric prices. The combination of American muscle and British finesse created an icon that defined the sports car era.
