About the 1996 Bentley Continental R T
The Continental marked Bentley's bold return to grand touring excellence after decades under Rolls-Royce's shadow. Built at Crewe from 1996-2003, this hand-crafted GT combined traditional British luxury with genuine performance credentials. The 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8 delivered 385 horsepower and massive torque, propelling the 5,500-pound coupe to 60 mph in under six seconds, remarkable for its era. Only 2,996 examples were produced, making it significantly rarer than its Rolls-Royce Corniche sibling. Each Continental required 160 hours of hand-finishing, with interiors showcasing Connolly leather and burr walnut veneers. The design, penned by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley, perfectly balanced muscular proportions with elegant restraint.
