About the 1959 Bentley S2 Saloon
The Bentley S2 marked a pivotal moment when Crewe finally embraced modern V8 power. Introduced in 1959, the S2 replaced the aging straight-six with Bentley's new 6.2-liter aluminum V8, transforming the stately saloon's character entirely. While visually nearly identical to the S1, the additional torque made highway cruising effortless and gave the 4,800-pound sedan genuine sporting credentials. Built on the same 123-inch wheelbase as its predecessor, the S2 featured improved power steering and automatic transmission as standard equipment. Only 2,308 standard steel saloons were produced during the brief three-year run, making it considerably rarer than the more common S1. Today's collectors appreciate the S2 as the sweet spot in the S-series lineage, offering classic 1950s styling with the reliability and performance of Bentley's legendary V8, which would power Bentleys for decades to come.
