About the 1968 Chevrolet Corvette
The C3 Corvette represents America's longest-running sports car generation, spanning 15 model years with dramatic styling evolution. Larry Shinoda's Mako Shark II-inspired design debuted in 1968 with removable T-tops, while the iconic Stingray name returned in 1969. Early cars are the holy grail, 1968-1972 models featured chrome bumpers and the legendary L88 427 big-block option, with only 216 L88s ever built. The 1970 LT-1 350 small-block delivered 370 hp in the last high-compression era before emissions strangled performance. Post-1973 cars adopted body-colored urethane bumpers and catalytic converters, marking the transition to the malaise era. Despite power drops, the C3's aggressive wedge profile and pop-up headlights defined automotive desire for a generation. Today, chrome-bumper cars command serious premiums, while later examples offer affordable entry into Corvette collecting with restoration potential.
