The Shelby GT350 was built from 1965 to 1970.
The 1965 GT350, the most traded version: The original 1965-66 GT350 stands as Carroll Shelby's purest vision—a street-legal race car that established the template for American performance. With only 562 units produced across both years, these Venice-built machines transformed Ford's pedestrian Mustang into something genuinely fearsome. The 306-horsepower 289 Hi-Po V8 delivered sub-6-second 0-60 times when most muscle cars were still in the sevens. Shelby's modifications were comprehensive: relocated battery, fiberglass hood with functional scoop, side exhausts, and suspension tuning that prioritized handling over comfort. The Koni shocks, larger anti-roll bars, and Detroit Locker rear end created a car that could genuinely compete with European sports cars. These early cars command premium prices today, representing the intersection of American muscle and racing pedigree. Their FIA GT3 homologation and limited production make them the most coveted of all Shelby Mustangs.
