The Cayman S made its debut at the 2005 IAA. In November 2005 it joined the 987 range. A Cayman with a 2.7-liter engine followed in May 2006. The first-generation Cayman was built until 2012. Porsche showed the Cayman GT4 at the Geneva show in March 2015. It was the first GT car Porsche based on the Cayman. Its 3.8-liter flat-six made 385 hp. Porsche gave a Nürburgring lap time of 7:40.
The 718 Cayman had its world premiere at Auto China in 2016. It came a few weeks after the 718 Boxster. Both used turbocharged four-cylinder flat engines. The base car had 2.0 liters and 300 hp. The S had 2.5 liters and 350 hp.
The 718 Cayman GT4 RS premiered at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2021. Porsche called it the flagship of the 718 family. It made 500 PS and lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:09.300.
Production of the 718 series ended in October 2025.
