The MG T-Type TD was built from 1949 to 1953.
The TD Base, the most traded version: The MG TD bridged the gap between prewar tradition and postwar modernity, combining classic MG styling with independent front suspension and left-hand drive availability that opened crucial export markets. Built on the TC's chassis but with modern conveniences like rack-and-pinion steering, the TD became MG's first truly international success. The familiar 1.3-liter XPAG engine provided reliable if modest performance, while wire wheels and flowing fenders maintained the classic MG aesthetic American buyers craved. With 29,664 examples built over four years, TDs are more common than their TC predecessors but still command respect as the car that established MG in America. Today's collectors appreciate the TD's blend of prewar character and improved reliability, making it an excellent introduction to T-series ownership with better parts availability than earlier models.
