MG began its T-Series with the TA in 1936, followed by the short-lived TB of 1939. The TC then ran until 1949 and was available only in right-hand drive. About 10,000 TCs were made.
The TD replaced it. Designers Syd Enever and Alec Hounslow created it from a Y-type tourer in two weeks in 1949. The TD offered left-hand drive, rack-and-pinion steering and 15-inch steel disc wheels. It was the first production MG with independent coil-sprung front suspension. Production ran from 1950 to 1953, and 29,664 TDs were sold in four years.
The TF followed in 1953. MG launched it at the Earls Court Motor Show. It sat 3 inches lower than the TD and had a sloping grille and faired-in headlights. The TF first used the 1,250 cc engine. Partway through 1954 MG added the XPEG engine, bored out to 1,466 cc with 63 bhp. These cars carried 1500 badges.
Production ended on April 4, 1955, with 9,602 TF and TF 1500 cars, including two prototypes. Of those, 3,400 were TF 1500s. The MGA replaced the T-Series.
