Maserati unveiled the GranTurismo at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. Pininfarina designed it. A V8 engine co-developed with Ferrari powered it. The GranCabrio convertible joined it at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The GranTurismo S of 2008 brought a 434 hp 4.7-liter V8, up from the 4.2-liter V8 and 399 hp. The MC Stradale was unveiled in 2010. The GranTurismo Sport replaced the S in March 2012. Its 4.7-liter engine was rated at 460 PS.

The first generation ended production in 2019 after a 12-year run. The last car was the one-off GranTurismo Zéda. Maserati reported sales of 28,805 coupes and 11,715 convertibles.

The second generation was revealed in 2022, and production began in April 2023. It offers three models: Modena, Trofeo, and Folgore. The Modena and Trofeo use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 490 hp and 550 hp. The electric Folgore reaches 62 mph from rest in 2.7 seconds. Its peak output is 760 hp.
