The BMW M2 G87 has been built since 2022.
The M2, the most traded version: The F87-generation M2 represents BMW's purest modern M car philosophy—compact dimensions married to serious performance hardware. Under the hood sits the S58 twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six producing 453 horsepower, the same engine found in the M3/M4. This powertrain pushes the 3,800-pound coupe to 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. What sets the M2 apart is its old-school M car character: rear-wheel drive, manual transmission availability, and proportions that harken back to the legendary E30 M3. The chassis strikes an impressive balance between daily usability and track capability, with adaptive dampers and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Production numbers remain relatively low compared to mainstream BMWs, and early examples are already showing strong residual values. For collectors seeking a modern BMW that captures the essence of what made M cars special, the F87 M2 delivers authentic driving dynamics in an increasingly digital automotive landscape.
