The Austin-Healey 3000 was announced on July 1, 1959. A 3-liter BMC C-Series engine replaced the 2.6-liter engine of the 100-6, and disc brakes went on the front wheels. Jensen Motors made the bodywork, and the cars were assembled at BMC's MG Works in Abingdon. The Mark I came as the four-seat BT7 and the two-seat BN7. In all, 13,650 Mark Is were built.
The Mark II got three SU HS4 carburetors and an improved camshaft, announced at the end of May 1961. The BN7 Mark II was the last strictly two-seater, with just 355 built. The BJ7 sports convertible Mark II was launched at the end of August 1962. It had a wrap-around windshield, wind-up side windows and a quick-action folding roof. Twin SU HS6 carburetors replaced the triple SUs. Healey club records list 6,113 BJ7 cars.
The Mark III, series BJ8, was introduced in late 1963 and built through December 1967. RM Sotheby's lists 150 hp from its 2,912 cc six-cylinder engine, the most of any Austin-Healey model. The BJ8 added a walnut burl wood dash panel and a center console. In 1963, 91.5 percent of all Austin-Healey 3000 cars were exported, mostly to North America. British Motor Corporation ended manufacture in 1967. The MGC took its place.
