The BJ8 represents the final and finest evolution of the Big Healey, incorporating all lessons learned over the model's production run. The 2.9-liter straight-six produced 150 horsepower while improved breathing and a better exhaust system enhanced both power and sound. Wind-up windows replaced the earlier side curtains, while the convertible top mechanism was refined for easier operation. Built from 1963 to 1967, the BJ8's 17,712 production run made it the most numerous 3000 variant. The Phase II cars from 1964 onwards featured the desirable wooden dashboard and improved interior appointments. As the last of the Big Healeys before safety regulations ended production, BJ8s represent the culmination of Austin-Healey's sports car development. Clean, numbers-matching examples continue appreciating steadily, with the BJ8's combination of performance, refinement, and historical significance making it the most desirable 3000 variant.
