About the 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL65 AMG Black Series
The SL65 AMG Black Series represents Mercedes' most unhinged interpretation of the SL formula. Built for just three years, this track-focused monster ditched the folding hardtop for a fixed carbon fiber roof, shedding 550 pounds while adding serious aero. The hand-built 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 pumps out 661 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful SL ever produced. AMG's engineers widened the body by nearly three inches, fitted massive carbon ceramic brakes, and tuned the suspension for circuit duty rather than boulevard cruising. Only 350 examples were built globally, with fewer than 175 reaching the US market. Today, clean examples command serious premiums over standard SL65s, as collectors recognize this as AMG's last naturally-aspirated V12 Black Series before the brand shifted toward hybrid powertrains.
