About the 1966 Ford GT40 Mk II

The GT40 Mk II delivered Ford's breakthrough Le Mans victory in 1966, ending Ferrari's dominance with the famous 1-2-3 finish. With only 12 built, these Slough-assembled racers packed the potent 427 big-block producing 485 hp, capable of 210 mph down the Mulsanne. The Mk II's wider body accommodated the larger engine while maintaining the original's proportions. Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby's testing and development work made this the most successful GT40 variant in period racing. The iconic photo finish controversy at Le Mans '66, where Miles was denied victory by Ford's orchestrated dead heat, only adds to the Mk II's mystique. Today, authentic Mk IIs rank among the most valuable American race cars ever built, representing Ford's greatest motorsport triumph.
