The Mercedes-Benz M-Class has been built since 1997.
The W164 M-Class, the most traded version: The W164 M-Class marked Mercedes-Benz's serious entry into the luxury SUV arena, building on lessons learned from the original ML's rough launch. This second-generation model introduced significantly improved build quality, refined road manners, and the sophisticated 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system that became a brand hallmark. The base ML350 featured a smooth 3.5-liter V6 producing 268 horsepower, while the ML550's 5.5-liter V8 delivered 382 horsepower for those wanting more grunt. Notable for introducing Mercedes' first BlueTEC diesel in the US market, the W164 also spawned the high-performance ML63 AMG. While not traditionally collectible today, clean examples with maintenance records are gaining appreciation as the last M-Class before the model's transition to GLE nomenclature. Early adopters of luxury SUV segment refinement.
