The Jaguar XJ X308 was built from 1998 to 2003.
The XJ, the most traded version: The X308 XJ represents Jaguar's last hurrah before Ford's heavy influence took hold, making it increasingly significant among collectors. Built on an aluminum spaceframe that was revolutionary for its time, this generation maintained the classic XJ proportions while shedding considerable weight. The naturally aspirated 4.0-liter AJ-V8 delivered smooth power befitting the XJ's grand touring character, though the supercharged variants are the real collector darlings. What sets the X308 apart is its blend of traditional Jaguar luxury with modern reliability improvements—these are genuinely usable classics. The interior remains quintessentially British with rich leather and burled walnut, while the exterior styling strikes the perfect balance between heritage and contemporary design. As values for earlier XJs climb steadily, the X308 offers an accessible entry point into XJ ownership with genuine appreciation potential, especially in supercharged form or rare long-wheelbase variants.
