Ferrari unveiled the F430 at the 2004 Paris Motor Show. Pininfarina created its line in collaboration with Ferrari's Head of Design. Little was carried over from the outgoing 360 Modena. The F430 used a new 90° V8 with a flat-plane crank. It displaced 4.3 liters and shared no components with the 360 Modena's engine. Power rose 23 percent to 490 hp at 8,500 rpm. Ferrari reported a 50 percent increase in downforce over the 360 Modena. The F430 was the first application of Ferrari's manettino steering wheel control knob.
The F430 Spider was unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show. Michael Schumacher unveiled the 430 Scuderia at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. Its V8 made 510 cv at 8,500 rpm. Ferrari celebrated its 2008 Formula 1 constructor's title with the Scuderia Spider 16M. That special limited series was just 499 cars.
Ferrari built the F430 Challenge for the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli from the 2006 season. The F430 GTC won class championships in the ALMS and FIA GT. It also scored class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008 and 2009. Production ran from 2004 until 2009. The 458 succeeded the F430 in 2009.
