The Cadillac Allante was built from 1987 to 1993.
The Allante, the most traded version: Cadillac's ambitious attempt to challenge Mercedes' SL-Class, the Allante remains one of automotive history's most fascinating failures. Each body was hand-built by Pininfarina in Italy, then air-shipped to Detroit for final assembly—the world's longest production line at 4,400 miles. The collaboration produced stunning Italian styling wrapped around GM's Northstar V8 technology, delivering 295 horsepower in later models. Only 21,430 examples were built across seven years, making genuine Allanges increasingly scarce. While initially dismissed by critics for reliability issues and steep $54,000 pricing, collectors now appreciate the Allante's unique position as America's only Italian-bodied luxury roadster. The final 1993 models, with their refined Northstar engines and improved build quality, represent the pinnacle of the breed. Today's market reflects growing recognition of the Allante's distinctive place in both Cadillac and Pininfarina history.
