The MG Midget Mk I was built from 1961 to 1964.
The Midget, the most traded version: The original MG Midget marked the return of the legendary nameplate, sharing its basic design with the Austin-Healey Sprite but adding MG's traditional octagonal grille and wire wheels. Built on the successful 'Spridget' platform, these early Midgets featured the spirited 948cc A-series engine that delivered genuine sports car character despite modest power figures. The lack of external door handles and wind-up windows gave these cars a purposeful, race-bred appearance that harked back to prewar MG tradition. With only 25,681 Standard models produced before the 1098cc engine arrived, early Midgets are increasingly sought after by collectors who appreciate their pure, uncompromised nature. The combination of light weight, eager engine, and classic proportions makes these among the most engaging of all small British sports cars.
