The Mazda RX-3 was built from 1971 to 1978.

The GT, the most traded version: The RX-3 GT marked Mazda's bold commitment to rotary power in the early 1970s, housing the twin-rotor Wankel engine in a lightweight, balanced chassis. With 130 hp from just 1.1 liters, it delivered impressive power-to-weight ratios that embarrassed larger-displacement rivals. The S102A platform's rear-wheel-drive layout and near-perfect weight distribution made it a giant-killer on both street and track. Racing success in IMSA and other series cemented its reputation among enthusiasts. Of the 95,000 units produced, survivors are increasingly rare due to the rotary's maintenance demands and rust issues. Clean examples command serious money today, as collectors recognize the RX-3 as the car that established Mazda's rotary legacy and proved unconventional engineering could work brilliantly.
