The Maserati Merak was built from 1972 to 1983.
The SS, the most traded version: The Merak SS represents the ultimate evolution of Giugiaro's mid-engine masterpiece, with 220 hp from the refined V6 and improved performance across the board. The 'SS' designation brought meaningful upgrades: more power, better suspension tuning, and enhanced interior appointments. With just 620 examples produced versus 1,832 standard Meraks, the SS commands serious collector attention. The extra 30 hp and revised gearing dropped 0-60 times to 6.8 seconds while raising top speed to 150 mph—impressive figures for the late 1970s. Values have surged as collectors recognize the SS as the definitive Merak, combining Maserati's exotic appeal with genuine rarity. The hydraulic systems require expert maintenance, but sorted examples offer an intoxicating blend of Italian style and surprising performance that rivals period Ferraris.
