Land Rover introduced the Range Rover Sport in 2005 as the first-generation L320. The Range Stormer concept, shown at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, prefigured it. The L320 used the chassis of the Discovery, with the wheelbase shortened by 14 cm. Gasoline power came from a 4.4-liter V8 making 300 hp or a supercharged 4.2-liter V8 making 385 hp.
Land Rover announced the second-generation L494 on March 27, 2013, at the New York Auto Show. It used an adapted version of the aluminum platform of the full-size Range Rover. The gasoline range had two supercharged units, a 3.0-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8. The V8 came in 503 bhp and 542 bhp outputs, and the 542 bhp version powered the SVR. Land Rover announced the SVR at Pebble Beach in 2014.
The third-generation L461 arrived for the 2023 model year. It sits on the MLA-Flex platform of the 2022 Range Rover. Land Rover offers it with mild-hybrid 3.0-liter straight-six engines. The P440e plug-in hybrid delivers 434 hp. The P530 has a twin-turbo V8 making 523 hp.
