The Lamborghini Countach LP400 S was built from 1978 to 1982.
The LP400 S, the most traded version: The LP400 S bridged the gap between the original's purity and later models' aggressive stance, introducing the first factory rear wing and flared fenders. The 3.9-liter V12 was slightly detuned to 353 hp for emissions compliance, but improved carburetion and intake systems maintained strong performance. Gandini's design evolution added the muscular wheel arches that became Countach signatures while preserving the clean wedge profile. With only 237 examples produced, the LP400 S represents a sweet spot of rarity and desirability. It offers the raw, unfiltered experience of early Countach ownership with slightly improved cooling and ergonomics. The S model established the template for all subsequent Countach variants while maintaining connection to the revolutionary original. Values have appreciated steadily as collectors recognize its historical significance as the bridge between the pure LP400 and more aggressive later variants.
