The Dodge Charger Daytona was built in 1969.
The Charger Daytona, the most traded version: The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona stands as NASCAR's most radical homologation special, born from Chrysler's desperate need to compete with Ford's aerodynamic dominance. With its 18-inch nose cone and towering rear wing, the Daytona was the first stock car to break 200 mph at Talladega. Only 503 examples were built to meet NASCAR's requirements, making it among the rarest muscle cars ever produced. Most came with the 440 Magnum V8, though 70 received the legendary 426 Hemi. The wild aero package added nearly two feet to the Charger's length and created a genuinely functional downforce machine. Today, Daytonas command astronomical prices, with Hemi cars pushing seven figures. Beyond the investment potential, these represent the absolute peak of the aero wars—a brief moment when manufacturers built street cars that looked like they belonged on another planet.
