Cadillac showed the original Escalade at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 1998. It was sold for the 1999 and 2000 model years. It was very closely related to the GMC Yukon Denali. Its 5.7-liter V8 was rated at 255 hp. The Escalade then took a hiatus for the 2001 model year.
The second generation came back in 2002 with a more distinct design. A high-output 6.0-liter Vortec V8 was rated at 345 hp. The third generation came to market in 2007 with a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 403 hp. An Escalade Hybrid was sold between 2009 and 2013. It paired a 6.0-liter V8 with two electric motors. The fourth generation made its debut as a 2015 model. Its 6.2-liter V8 could run on four cylinders and was rated at 420 hp. The Escalade ESV is the long version.
The 2021 Escalade moved to a new chassis with independent rear suspension. Its dash carries more than 38 inches of diagonal digital display space. Cadillac offered a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp. It also offered a 3.0-liter I6 turbodiesel with 277 hp, an Escalade first. The 2023 Escalade-V added a supercharged V8 rated at 682 hp.
